Dallas plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven J. White, is an acclaimed specialist in body contouring and fat removal. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, uses a variety of advanced cosmetic procedure techniques to remove excess skin and fat deposits from the upper arm, leading to a restored, youthful and fit look. Excess skin in the arms typically develops naturally in the aging process or as a result from massive weight loss. In order to lift the arm, an incision is typically made from under the elbow along the inner arm to the upper arm. Dr. White may use a combination of techniques for greater success. For example, liposuction may be used alone or in partnership with an arm lift.
The best candidates for an arm lift procedure are men or women who have loose and hanging skin from the underside of the upper arm. This skin keeps these individuals from wearing short sleeves or fitting clothing. Patients must be at or near their goal weight, and their weight loss should be stabilized. This surgery is not reserved for weight loss patients alone. Aging and gravity can also have a negative effect on the arms. Patients who are in good health and wish to have their arms toned and tightened may also consider this procedure.
"For years I had struggled with getting rid of my belly and constantly felt defeated. I am 30 years old and for the most part am very active. I worked out six days a week and tried ever diet out there .I still could not get the results I wanted. I finally decided in May of this year to make a consultation .I choose Dr. White because he performed liposuction and breast augmentation on my mother 15 years ago and did an amazing job. Therefor I went in met with Dr.White and literally 2 hours later scheduled my operation for liposuction of the stomach and arms for six months later. I walked out of his office feeling so ensured and excited for what was to come. I am not going to lie I was very skeptical for 2 reasons. One I had never had surgery and the second did not know what to expect. Nevertheless surgery day came and I could not have felt more excited. From the hospital staff to Dr. White I had never felt more comfortable and assured. Dr.White literally walks you through ever step and takes such pride in his work. The surgery went amazing there was literally no pain at all and 3 weeks out of my surgery I was in a bodysuit for Halloween. It’s been two months since my surgery and I cannot explain how happy I am with my results. My friends ask me if I would do it again and the answer is YES!!!!!!"- C.B. / Google / Dec 12, 2018
"I had been wanting to do a BA for 4 years. I was eager but very nervous to go through with surgery. From the moment I met Dr. White I knew he was going to be my surgeon. He was funny, intentional, knowledgeable, and he made me feel very comfortable. He gave me more than enough information with a whole booklet of answers and directions for prepping for surgery. I never had a feeling of not knowing what I needed to do and i never felt more safe under his care. I loved his staff as well, especially Melanie who has been there for every pre and post op appointment. After surgery there wasn't pain and I had no bruising what so ever. Dr. White takes his time during surgery and after to make sure you heal your best. It has been 6 weeks since my surgery and my incisions are so thin and are healing nicely. I am so happy with the results that I catch myself staring in the mirror. I bought so many new tops that I now feel so confident wearing. If you are looking for quality Dr. White is your man!"- M.R. / Google / Jan 31, 2021

"For five years I thought and considered doing a breast reduction/lift. The desire for the procedure intensified a year and half ago and I started searching for the best cosmetic surgeon. I did several consultations with quite a number of them but when I consulted with Dr White, I knew without a doubt that he was the surgeon I have been looking for, for a year and half. I am a family and psychiatric nurse practitioner. Apart from great reviews and qualifications of Dr White, I felt his passion and excitement for what he does. You could see that he loves his job and genuinely cares about his clients. He took time to explain in great detail, the procedure. I have worked with many surgeons and done a few minor surgeries myself, many surgeons don’t even see their patients except on the day of surgery. Dr White and his beautiful, kind staff spent at least two hours with me. I knew that consultation day that my search for the best cosmetic surgeon for my breast reduction/lift was over. The day of the surgery 12/4/2020, I was relaxed and ready because I knew I was in good hands. The procedure went smoothly. Dr White strictly instructed the nurses how to take care of me to the point of how to position me. As a nursing professional myself, that was going above and beyond. I had a follow up with him twice a week and then once a week. In all the follow ups, he assessed the surgical site and changed the dressing himself. The outcome of my surgery was simply beautiful..perfect. I am grateful to Dr Steven J White and his staff. He gave me my confidence and happiness back."- A.A. / Google / Jan 18, 2021

What to Expect
The goal of a brachioplasty procedure is to result in a toned upper arm appearance. Our talented surgeon will evaluate the skin quality and looseness and determine how much fat, tissue and skin should be removed to attain the results the patient desires. The length of the incision made during surgery will vary; patients who have healthy skin tone may only require a minor incision. Massive weight loss patients that present with excessively loose and hanging skin will require a more extensive approach. During surgery, the excess skin is trimmed and removed, and the underlying muscles are tightened. An armpit lift is sometimes incorporated during this procedure for patients who have additional skin and fat deposits within the armpit.
Swelling is expected after brachioplasty surgery although this varies between patients. The swelling starts to resolve during the first 1-2 weeks after surgery. A compression garment or sleeve will usually be needed to control this swelling and help keep the skin and tissue firmly protected. Most patients can resume modest arm activity in 3-4 weeks, with a complete recovery occurring in about 4-6 weeks. While scarring is unfortunately a part of this procedure, the incision resides under the arm so that it is not as noticeable. Our doctor will provide a scar treatment plan so that the incision heals in a healthy and quick manner.
